Red Sky at night Psi Judge in a fight -Original art by Brian Bolland -Anderson and The Dark Judges Daddy !-The nice thing about this image is I can do another spooky sky version too (maybe around Halloween)The Cover for a Eagle Judge Dredd comic book in the 1980s I found a scan of the original and decided to colour it -also saw a Spinball War drawn by Brian -a story I didn't read in Battle Action at the time (more into Charley Sarge Johnny Red at the time- but its set in 2001 lol -but if they're now writing the 2030-2070's Judges - would make a cool Judge Fargo crossover -
Two episodes re-coloured and Brett Ewins final work on strip untill The Possessed (which I hope to colour as well)
Another Legend to colour next-Cliff Robinson -looking forward to that
Anderson mentions the Titan Trip currently reading Judge Dredd Year Two-The Righteous Man-which deals with the events directly after Joe arrests his brother Rico -and theres a character called Red (I wonder if it's the very same Red at the start of The Cursed Earth -or a nod to Red Hugh )
Updated
Just finished the story and yep it is the very same Red (I may be a total total nerd to remember this character - but Je didn't really have many friends let alone a civilian so that was nicely done in the novel)Looking forward to Year 3 Fallen Angel- year Six should be interesting as thats when War Between Mega City One and Texas City kicks off -that's another piece of Mega History I'd like to see depicted.
Had a go at Carlos Ezquerra's first Judge Dredd story -"The Bank Job"- not sure it's ever been coloured before not even in the Old Eagle Comic reprints of the 1980's except the last page with the landscape I actually copied that page as close to as the original that appeared as a poster back in 1977
The very first Dredd didn't actually surface till 1980 in the 1981 Annual - between then Carlos didn't really draw strip till The Apocalypse War although he did draw an episode about a robot King Kong and one episode of the First Robot Wars (The First printed Dredd Epic) but he wasn't too happy about his character been handed over to other artists whilst this story never saw the light of day - I'd say it's because Dredd's too ruthless more of a problem with the script Dredds world really hadn't been developed - there had to be some rationality - you can't identify with someone who shoots people for dropping litter would get boring after a while - so not so much Carlos at fault it's just the mad laws
- interesting to see that Dredd dosen't have Dredd on his badge but Judge instead - early story covers would be coloured and have a silver badge , a gun holster which was seperate from boot and yellow belt - I have my own colour schemes for Judges (never keen on blue uniform- I'm sure Carlos intended it to be black leather or material similar - dunno who started colouring him blue .But Blacks more menacing and punk rock. Dredd's seriously out of line here executing perps just willy nilly - you'd think he's gone rogue having read stories prior to this - would this be considered Dredd canon? - also working alongside the Police is an odd thing too (gotta love Carlos future cop car in second to last panel ) Police may controlled Manhatten at that time in 2099 maybe Dredds been sent
in to control situation and route out currupt police system in order for Judges to take power away - would like Dredd to to take the lot of them down and he's cool enough to do it mind from what I remember many of the original police where destroyed durring the Robot Wars (a good writer could weave this into a The Pit like epic - where this first story could be just one incident of a big story) -I'll get back to my Anderson pages soon - they need sorting as well as a picture I'm doing for a mate (may go back to my own story after that if I can get my confidence back)
I said here before that Carlos is bit like our Jack Kirby although art styles are completly different and subject matter but the output and creativity are in the same league so he should be heralded in the same way
Interview with Carlos accents spanish but the nice thing about youtube is you can rewind and catch what he says - his art is truly missed but it's great theres so much of it
Interview with Chief Judge Dredd writer John Wagner - I think it's from a few years back and originally was in two parts but John along with Pat Mills and Alan Grant are Joe's Daddies- worth hearing as John rarely does interviews
I've been looking forward to Dreadnoughts in The Megazine like the Judges Novels it will explore the early days of The Justice Dept illustrated by John Higgins and written by one of my fave Dredd writers Micheal Carroll - hopefuly we'll get to see the Father of Justice himself Fargo - here's a link featuring a interview with both writer and artist about the story
